The goal in every world is simple: win the five-race cup. To get there you need more than a heavy right foot. Nuts lie scattered on the track, and once you collect them you can fire them forwards at the kart in front of you or backwards at someone trying to pass. Corners are where races are won, because a well-timed drift charges a boost that shoots you ahead when you let go.

How to play Nutty Rush Kart

Start by choosing one of the 12 racers and putting your kart together. You can swap bodies, wheels, side panels, nut launchers and glide wings, so try a few combinations and see what feels right for you. Then pick the first world and line up for the opening race of its cup.

Once the lights go, hold accelerate and steer through the first corners. Watch the track for nuts and drive over them to stock up. When a rival is right in front of you, fire a nut forwards; when someone is closing in from behind, fire one backwards. Before a sharp bend, start a drift, hold it through the turn and release it on the way out to get a burst of speed. Speed pads on the track give you an extra push for free.

If you spin out or leave the track, use the reset key to get back on the road quickly. Finish the five races with the most points to win the cup and move on to the next world.

• W or Up Arrow: accelerate
• A / D or Left / Right Arrows: steer
• S or Down Arrow: brake and reverse
• Space or Shift: drift, release for a boost
• E: fire a nut forward, Q: fire a nut backward
• R: back on the track, P or Esc: pause (touch screens use an on-screen wheel)

Tips and tricks

• Save your drift boosts for the exit of long corners, where the extra speed carries you furthest.
• Keep one nut in reserve so you can fire it backwards when a rival is about to overtake you.
• Drive over speed pads whenever you can; they cost nothing and often decide close races.
• Try different kart parts in the garage. A build that feels slow on one world can be perfect on a twisty one.
• If you crash, press the reset key straight away instead of trying to reverse out.
