Shadow Fist Kung Fu is a fast stickman beat 'em up where you climb through buildings floor by floor, punching and kicking your way past waves of enemies. You play Kai, the last student of Master Lin, on a mission to win back the stolen Dragon Scroll from the Black Lotus clan.

Every level is a building full of rooms, from living rooms and kitchens to dojos and basements. You fight the enemies in each room, climb ladders or ride elevators to reach the next floor, beat the boss at the end and pick up the golden key that opens the exit door. The story levels each end with a unique boss, and after them the game keeps generating new levels with fresh mixes of enemies.

Shadow Fist Kung Fu is great for players who enjoy quick, button-mashing action that slowly turns into real skill. Chaining combos, blocking at the right moment and using your dash to slip out of danger feels better and better the longer you play.

How to play Shadow Fist Kung Fu

When a level starts, move Kai through the first room and attack the nearest enemy. Press attack several times in a row to chain punches into a combo, and mix in air attacks when enemies crowd around you. Your special move is a spinning attack that is perfect for clearing a group.

Do not just attack: block incoming hits and use the dash, which gives you a moment of invincibility, to get out of a corner. When the room is clear, find the ladder or elevator and head to the next floor. Keep going until you reach the boss, defeat it and grab the golden key. Then walk to the exit door and press the exit key to finish the level.

The on-screen hints change to match your keyboard layout, so check them in the first level if a key does not seem to work.

Tips and tricks

• Start every fight with a combo, then dash away before enemies can hit back.
• Use the spinning special move when three or more enemies surround you.
• Block when a boss winds up a big attack, then punish it with a full combo.
• The dash makes you briefly invincible, so use it to pass through attacks rather than only to run.
• Clear each room before taking the ladder, so no enemies follow you upstairs.
